Specifications

The lens is a 50mm prime with a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and a minimum aperture of f/16. Its construction has 9 elements in 6 groups, including 1 FLD element and 3 aspherical elements, and the aperture has 14 rounded blades. The angle of view is 46.8°, the minimum focusing distance is 45 cm with a maximum magnification of 1:6.8. The filter thread measures 52 mm. In L-Mount the lens is 64.7 mm in diameter and 54.0 mm long, in Sony E it is 56.0 mm long; the weight is 375 g for both mounts[2].

Autofocus and build

For autofocus Sigma developed the new RDD (Rotary Direct Drive) actuator, in which coils and magnets are arranged in a circle around the barrel. Focusing works by extending the whole lens instead of inner focusing. Turning the focus ring during autofocus temporarily switches the lens to manual focus[2]. The metal body carries an aperture ring, a distance scale with a depth-of-field scale and a magnetic metal lens cap. It is dust- and splash-resistant, and the front element has a water- and oil-repellent coating[2].

Colors and supplied accessories

The lens will come in black and silver for L-Mount and in black for Sony E[2]. According to Sigma the package includes a lens hood, front and rear caps, the magnetic metal cap and a pouch[1]. Find more options under all Sony E lenses and all Leica L-Mount lenses.
