Specifications
The zoom range is 120 to 300 mm at f/2.8; with the teleconverter engaged it becomes 168 to 420 mm at f/4. The optical construction has 30 elements in 24 groups, of which 8 elements in 5 groups sit in the teleconverter, with one ED, one Super ED, one aspherical, one fluorite and one SR glass element each[2]. Minimum focus distance ranges from 0.98 m at 120 mm to 2 m at 300 mm. The lens takes 112 mm screw-on filters at the front and 46 mm slip-in filters at the rear. It is 128 mm in diameter, 353.5 mm long and weighs 2,735 g[3]. According to Nikon that is about 515 g less than the F-mount AF-S Nikkor 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR[4].

Open in the size comparisonAutofocus, stabilizer and build
For autofocus Nikon uses the Silky Swift VCM (SSVCM), a drive that combines a voice coil motor with a guide mechanism. The image stabilizer is rated at up to 6.5 stops under the CIPA 2024 standard, measured on the Z6III at the telephoto end without the teleconverter and with a camera that supports Synchro VR. Focusing and zooming are internal, so the length of the lens does not change. The front elements carry Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat against ghosting and flare. The body is made of magnesium alloy and is dust- and drip-resistant thanks to extensive sealing; Nikon does not guarantee full protection in every situation. The tripod collar works with screw-type Arca-Swiss clamps[4].
Supplied accessories
The package includes the HB-120 lens hood, the LC-112B lens cap, the LF-N1 rear cap, the CL-L3 lens pouch and the LN-4 strap[2]. Find more options under all Nikon Z lenses.
