Overview
The Samyang / Rokinon AF 14-24mm F2.8 FE is a compact autofocus ultra wide zoom for Sony E-mount full frame cameras. It was developed jointly with Schneider-Kreuznach and released in April 2025 (sold as Rokinon in the United States). It suits landscape, architecture, interiors and astrophotography.
Optical design
The lens has 15 elements in 11 groups. According to the maker, it includes three aspherical, five high refractive and three ED elements, a UMC coating and a 9 blade diaphragm. The aperture runs from F2.8 to F22. The minimum focus distance is 18 cm across the zoom range, with a maximum magnification of 0.26x at 24 mm. Samyang says the three aspherical elements reduce coma for night sky work.
Autofocus and handling
Autofocus uses a linear STM motor. The lens has focus and zoom rings, an AF/MF switch, a customizable button preset to focus lock and a USB port for firmware updates. Samyang says the focus ring can act as an aperture ring in autofocus mode when using the Samyang Lens Manager. There is no stabilizer.
Build and size
The lens weighs 445 g (without cap and hood), has a maximum diameter of 84 mm and measures 98.6 mm at the wide end and 88.8 mm at the tele end. It takes 77 mm front filters, which Samyang highlights as unusual among super wide zooms of this class. It has weather sealing against dust and light rain, though not guaranteed under all conditions.
Where it fits
It competes with the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN Art, the Sony FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM and the Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II. Samyang's own primes in this range include the Samyang AF 14mm F2.8 FE and Samyang AF 24mm F2.8 FE.
