Meike AF 35mm F2 STM

The Meike AF 35mm F2 STM is a compact full-frame autofocus prime for Sony E, Nikon Z and Leica L mount. The 35 mm focal length is a common choice for street photography, documentary work and travel, and the f/2 maximum aperture keeps the lens relatively small. On APS-C bodies the angle of view corresponds to about 52.5 mm.

The lens has 11 elements in 9 groups, which Meike lists as including two ED elements, one high-refractive-index element and one ultra-high-refractive-index element. The aperture runs from f/2 to f/22 with 9 blades. Meike points to an internal focusing design, so the lens length does not change during autofocus. The minimum focus distance is 0.45 m.

Autofocus and handling

Meike combines an STM stepping motor with a lead screw and describes the drive as fast and accurate, with eye detection autofocus where the camera supports it. EXIF data are transmitted, and a USB-C port allows firmware updates. A petal-shaped hood is supplied, which Meike describes as easy to attach and remove.

Build and size

The lens is about 73 mm in diameter and 90 mm long and weighs approximately 298 g. The filter thread is 58 mm. Meike states that dust and moisture resistant seals are fitted.
