Overview
The Yongnuo YN 35mm F1.8 DA DSM is a small autofocus prime for APS-C cameras with a Canon RF-compatible bayonet. It frames like a 56 mm lens on full frame. Yongnuo markets it not as a Canon RF lens but as part of its "Multi-mount" series. According to Yongnuo, this is the name of its own camera mount, which has not yet been released, and the lenses use a lens-lock button to secure the lens to the camera.
Optical design
Yongnuo specifies 10 elements in 8 groups, an aperture range of f/1.8 to f/16 and seven aperture blades. A nano-multilayer coating is meant to reduce ghosting and flare, and the front element has a fluorine coating. One high-refractive-index element is highlighted in the lens diagram. The diagonal angle of view is 44.9 degrees.
Autofocus and handling
A digital stepping motor (DSM) drives the focus. The minimum focus distance is 30 cm at 0.15x magnification. An AF/MF switch is fitted, and the focus ring supports full-time manual focus once the camera function is turned on. To remove the lens, Yongnuo says to press and hold the unlock button on the lens, not the release button on the camera. The lens has no wireless remote function.
Build and size
The lens has a metal bayonet with gold-plated contacts, a rubber gasket at the mount (dust and splash resistant, but not fully waterproof) and a USB-C port for firmware updates. The filter thread is 52 mm. It measures about 69 x 61 mm and weighs about 183 g without caps. Yongnuo offers a classic black and an ivory white version.
Where it fits
For Canon RF, the database lists the Canon RF 35mm F1.8 IS STM Macro, which covers full frame, has optical stabilization and a macro function. The Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM and the Canon RF 28mm F2.8 STM are other short primes. The Yongnuo is APS-C only, so on full-frame RF bodies it works with an automatic 1.6x crop, as Yongnuo notes.

Verdict
The YN 35mm F1.8 DA DSM is a very light, bright 56 mm equivalent prime for APS-C cameras with an RF-compatible bayonet. It is aimed at users who want a basic autofocus standard lens and accept the unusual "Multi-mount" positioning.
