Overview
The Voigtländer APO-Skopar 75mm f/2.8 is a compact manual focus medium telephoto lens for Leica M and other cameras that use the VM mount. Cosina presents it as an apochromatic lens that is only 44 mm long, roughly the size of a standard 50mm lens, while still covering the full frame format.
Optical design
The lens has 7 elements in 6 groups. According to Cosina, 4 of the 7 elements are made of anomalous partial dispersion glass, and the apochromatic design is meant to bring axial chromatic aberration of red, green and blue as close to zero as possible. The aperture has 10 blades and runs from f/2.8 to f/22. The angle of view is 32.7 degrees, and the image circle is large enough for full frame.
Focusing and handling
Focusing is manual with an all-metal helicoid. The rangefinder coupling covers infinity to 0.7 m, which is also the minimum focus distance, so no live view focusing is needed to reach the closest distance. The lens does not have electronic contacts or autofocus. Focus and aperture are set on the lens rings.
Build and size
The lens weighs 191 g and measures 54.0 mm in diameter by 44.0 mm in length. The filter thread is 43 mm. A metal screw-in hood in the lens color is supplied, and Cosina says it is specially designed so that only 3 mm protrudes when fitted.
Where it fits
Leica's own 75mm options for M are the Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4 ASPH and the Summarit-M 75mm f/2.5, and above them the APO-Summicron-M 75mm f/2 ASPH. From the same maker, the 75mm f/1.8 Heliar Classic is a brighter lens with a different character, and the Nokton 75mm f/1.5 is brighter still. Thypoch also lists a Simera 75mm F1.4 for M. All of these are faster, so the APO-Skopar trades speed for its 44 mm length.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Only 44 mm long and 191 g
- Apochromatic design with 4 special dispersion elements
- Rangefinder coupling to the 0.7 m minimum distance
- Small 43 mm filter size and a short hood that protrudes only 3 mm
Cons
- f/2.8 is slower than other 75mm lenses for M
- Manual focus only, no electronic contacts
- Minimum focus of 0.7 m limits close-ups
- No stabilization
Verdict
The APO-Skopar 75mm f/2.8 is a small telephoto for rangefinder shooters who value size and color correction over speed. Cosina first showed it at the CP+ show in 2026 and lists it with full data on its site.
