Overview
The Brightin Star AF 24mm F1.8 is an autofocus full frame wide angle prime for Sony E and Nikon Z. It was announced in December 2025 and is the brand's third autofocus full frame lens after the 85mm and 35mm. At 24mm it covers an 83 degree angle of view and suits landscape, street, travel and interior work.
Optical design
According to the manufacturer the lens has 14 elements in 11 groups and an aperture range of F1.8 to F16 with 11 blades. The design includes two aspherical, three high refraction and three ED elements. The closest focusing distance is 0.32 m. Brightin Star says that focus breathing is kept very low, which matters for video.
Autofocus and handling
Focusing is driven by an STM stepping motor, and the manual lists phase detection autofocus with focus peaking. The lens offers face and eye detection, an AF/MF switch and a USB-C port for firmware updates. The Sony E version has a de-clicked aperture ring for video, while the Nikon Z version has a function button instead of a ring. A lens hood is part of the design.
Build and size
For Sony E the lens measures 75 mm in diameter and 88 mm in length and weighs 444 g. For Nikon Z the figures are 75 mm by 90 mm and 448 g. The filter thread is 62 mm, the same as on other Brightin Star autofocus primes, so one set of filters fits across the AF 24, 35 and 85mm lenses.
Where it fits
In the database comparable 24mm lenses for E and Z are the Viltrox AF 24mm F1.8 (both mounts), the 7Artisans AF 24mm F1.8 (E, Z and L), the Samyang / Rokinon AF 24mm F1.8 FE for E, and the Nikon Nikkor Z 24mm F1.8 S for Z. The Brightin Star offers the same focal length and aperture as the Viltrox with a different feature mix, including the aperture ring on the E version.
